Big News this Weekend!
Yesterday, we announced the rally that will be happening on October 14. We hope you’ll join us and invite all your friends.
Today there’s another announcement – the formation of a new member non-profit - Preserve Rural Maine. Our mission is to preserve the communities, culture, and environmental integrity of rural Maine. Our goal is to protect all the things we love about our beautiful state.
We believe that appropriate development can happen without destroying habitats, farms, forests, homesteads, small businesses, or our tight knit communities. The first objective of Preserve Rural Maine is to make this project right, and we believe it can be done.
Why a new non-profit?
When my family received our letter from LS Power, I immediately began gathering information and started the Facebook group to unite other landowners to share information with each other. At the same time, I began calling lawyers to get legal advice. Many attorneys I talked to couldn’t help, either because of a conflict of interest or because this project was far too big for their limited sized offices to take on. But in late July, we found an attorney who was not only willing to take on this project, but who also works has experience handling cases just like this. The law firm has the staff, they have the experience, and they have the desire to represent us.
When my husband and I met with the attorney, we were advised to start a non-profit. The attorney will be hired by the non-profit, and anyone who is a member of the non-profit will be represented.
We need your help!
This is where you all come in. We need you to become members. We need you to donate to help fund the legal expenses. We need $10,000 to get started, then we’ll need to continue fundraising to cover the ongoing costs. It’s a lot, and we recognize this. But I believe that everyone working together can make this happen and we can make a significant difference. Our voices will be joined together to amplify our cause. Working together as one large group will enable us to accomplish so much more than if we each worked alone.
It’s been a lot of work over the last weeks to file all the necessary paperwork, build the website, and plan our course forward. I didn’t do this alone, and we have a Board who has volunteered to be part of this because they want to make a difference. Our Board consists of a diverse group of people with knowledge and experience in many industries. We have and will continue to work tirelessly to protect the sanctuary of your home.
We have a big job ahead of us, and we need your support. Become a member of Preserve Rural Maine. Let's show our State what can be done when we all work together.
